“Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.” ~ Joseph Pilates
I found my love of movement at a young age when I started dancing. This was also my first connection to movement as emotional healing.
My mother was advised to put me in dance to deal with sexual abuse I sustained at a young age. As I grew, the passion grew with me into adulthood; I never had perfect form, then I injured my knee at 18 and assumed movement was not my future. That is, until I found Pilates.
Only a few years after the injury I started to work with Erin Wetzel, of Core Arts Pilates, and found the physical healing that could be in movement. I continued to work with Erin through my first pregnancy, resulting in a 4 hour natural delivery of surprise twins (but that story is for another time) and our work continued in my early postpartum months; which I am convinced (after three other pregnancies and births) would have been much more difficult without Pilates.
After my second birth experience I noticed the difference Pilates had made in my experience, and I was inspired to take the steps to become a Pilates instructor and signed up for training as soon as I could. I found Melissa Francis of Intelligent Exercise, and have been going through the Balanced Body trainings since 2013. In that time I have gained a lot of life experiences that have shown me how helpful the presence of movement can be.
